Season 5
Season fifth- With the beginning of season five, Monk becomes a movie star. He is the central character of an upcoming movie, where, he’s not playing Monk; rather his role will be played by the superstar David Ruskin. Consequently, David observes Monk’s investigation to get into the role, which creates funny hurdles for Monk.
Later on, Mr. Monk loses his eye sight in an accidental firehouse explosion, but still remains a detective with vividness. He uses his sixth sense and as usual again associates two different murders. In his 25th Class reunion, Monk happens to meet Trudy’s old buddy, which evokes Monk’s painful emotions. It is also learnt that during his college Monk was known as Captain Cool.
Monk gets a shock, when his psychiatrist retires after being charged for murder of cleaning lady. Now Monk is afraid of searching a new shrink. On Christmas, Monk again meets his father.
Monk encounters a man, who had faked his death but now wants to prove he is still alive with Monk’s assistance. In episode, ‘Mr. Monk at your Service’ Monk becomes a butler while going undercover to investigate a murder in neighborhood of Natalie’s parents.
This season is really tragic for Monk, as he had to confront maximum phobias. Poor Monk courageously fought with his fear of dogs, germs, insanity, frogs, farm animals and what not! He also encounters a rarified serial killer who bumps off his victims in six different ways. In the finale, the hygiene conscious detective goes to hospital for treatment of his bloody nose, to find a doctor’s body over there. A bed ridden patient is the suspect.
Best episode- Mr. Monk Can’t See a Thing
This season jumped the last season’s ratings and this episode bagged the highest. In this episode, unfortunately, Monk’s elderly friend is burnt to death and Monk also becomes the victim of same intruder. Despite the probability of permanent loss of sight, he insists on handling the case. He utilizes his unused sixth sense to get clues and surprisingly solves the case by finding two culprits instead of one.
