Randy Disher
Randy Disher- He is Captain Stottlemeyer’s second in command in San Francisco Police Department. Initially, he was a great critic of Monk. He gave him the funny name in the first meeting, as ‘A Defective Detective’. He’s kinda naïve and overly ambitious guy, but not a very bright assistant to Stottlemeyer. He has his plethora of theories to work upon cases as well as to comment about the cases, Monk handles. His popular gag on the show is his awkward ceremonial way of delivering news to Stottlemeyer.
Like Stottlemeyer, he was also jealous of him in the beginning, but steadily, Monk won his heart as well. Monk once helps him to get out of a difficult situation. Later, he started to teach him his tactics of conversing with people. He claims that he can make people speak, what they don’t say otherwise. He agrees that he is not that capable at weird cases as Monk. His presence on the show is itself a running gag.
