Captain Leland Stottlemeyer- Portrayed by Ted Levine
Stottlemeyer’s Character- Leland is a Captain in the San Francisco Police Department and a long time friend of Adrian Monk. Stottlemeyer can be called the major sufferer also, as his officers forcefully deputed him to assist Monk in his investigations. He is a bit jealous of Monk, because he knows that his disorders are his minus point for police service. Still, in the matter of investigation, he is not even close to Monk. He agrees at some moments that Monk is a brilliant detective.
Despite all this, he is true friend of Monk, as he helps Monk in his wife Trudy’s murder’s investigations. He joins him to New York City while following an evidence of Trudy’s murder case and argues with NY police officer over concealing such important evidence.
Once when his own wife gets injured, falls into Coma, but eventually recovers, then he turns extra sympathetic towards Monk for loss of his wife. With the passage of time, he becomes more and more close friend of Monk and supports him in every way despite his sometimes, embarrassing quirks.
He doubts that his wife is having an affair, but later on discovers that she was preparing for their divorce. Later on, he himself falls in love with a lady named Linda Fusco. He decides to propose her during a trip to Hawaii, but is seen throwing a ring into Ocean.

Birth Place- Parma, Ohio.
Life and Career- Initially, he got famous for his role of a serial killer Jame Gumb in “The Silence of the Lambs” in 1991. Currently, he is known for playing Captain Stottlemeyer in Monk.
After college, he became a regular in Remains Theatre, co-founded by Gary Cole and William L. Petersen. After stage he started scrambling for movie roles and finally got a little chunk in “Charlie’s Angels”. He also got a small part in “Rambo- First Blood Part II”.
His first mainstream role was in ‘The silence of the Lambs’. After which he started earning good roles like in ‘Heat’, HBO mini-series ‘From the Earth to the Moon’ and in “The fast And The Furious”. In 2003 he got movie ‘Wonderland’ after joining ‘Monk’ in 2002.
He has also lent his voice to the super villain Sinestro in “Superman: The Animated Series”, “Justice League” and “Justice League: Unlimited”. In 2006, Levine has played a patriarch in “The Hills have Eyes”. His most recent movie project was “American Gangster” in 2007.
