Adrian Monk is the main character of the ‘Monk’ show. He is a brilliant detective of San Francisco Police Department. The unfortunate death of his wife Trudy, in a car bombing, disturbed him to the extent that the Force had to discharge him from duties. Due to his wife’s death he suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as well as various types of phobias including that of germs, heights, crowds, boats and milk.
He also keeps note cards on which he writes small talk phrases, as he finds it difficult to socialize with people. At some moments, he is extremely self-centered and insensitive. Despite this, he has preternatural ability of reconstructing entire picture of crime out of scrap of details, which seem unimportant to his colleagues. This is why despite his quirks; his fellow detectives rely upon him for a solution in confusing cases.
He was a loner after his wife’s death and hardly stepped out of his home for three years, but a nurse Sharona Fleming helps him to get out of his dilemma and encourages him to merge with the outer world. After her departure he again suffers depression, but his new assistant, and Sharona’a replacement Natalie Teeger acts as a pacifier for him. The entire series revolves around his investigations and funny acts while handling his disorder.

Life and career- He is an actor as well as executive producer of Monk TV show. He is playing a detective who is suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Due to this disorder, he can solve those complex cases which others find difficult to stand with. He has also worked in TV series ‘Wings’ from 1991 to 1997.
He is son of a Lebanese father, and American mother and has nine siblings. Acting bug bit him way back in his childhood when he started participating in stage shows and plays in his school. In 80s he moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts after graduation. He made debut on stage with ‘The Odd Couple’ in 1985. He also met his would be wife Brooke Adams while co starring on The Heidi- Chronicles.
His first break on television began with his role of ‘Antanio Scarpacci’ in ‘Wings’. In 1997, the show got cancelled by NBC. Then he bagged a film role in ‘The Man Who Wasn’t There’. He has also worked in ‘Primary Colors’, ‘Men In Black’, ‘A Civil Action’ and here is a long list ahead and I am not gonna mention all. The bottom line is that his experience led him to production and acting in ‘Monk’.
Before his marriage with Brooke, he had an adopted daughter Josie (born 1988) and after their marriage in 1994, they adopted another daughter Sophie (1993).
